Travel to Brightlingsea

Most of those taking part in weekend activities tend to travel up on the Friday after work and arrive from early evening onwards. For anyone travelling up on the Saturday morning instead, a very early start is necessary to arrive in good time to take part in the necessary preparations.

The address of our Centre is 126 Sydney Street, Brightlingsea, Essex, and if travelling by road, the postcode for your Satnav or your route planner is CO7 0BD.

Sydney Street is off “Waterside”, and there is a pub, “The Yachtsmans Arms”, on the corner. Once into Sydney Street, at the southern end, look for no. 126, “The Old Custom House”, a 2 storey building topped by a white tower on the left about 50 yards from “The Yachtsmans Arms”. Unfortunately there is no parking available at the house.

If travelling on Friday evening by train from Liverpool Street, EC2M 7QA, it is best to book to Colchester Station, CO1 1XD. Try to take the 18:00 to Norwich, the 20:00 to Norwich or the 22:00 to Ipswich all of which connect with the 2 hourly bus service 87 from the station forecourt to Brightlingsea. The overall journey time is about 1¾ hours.

If travelling on Saturday morning from Liverpool Street, an early start is necessary to reach the Centre in time for the pre-sailing briefing which normally takes place at 09:00, after breakfast at 08:00. It is best to book to Colchester Station and take the 07:00 to Norwich, which connects with the 2 hourly bus service 87 from the station forecourt to Brightlingsea.

The overall journey time is about 1¾ hours.

The 87 bus to Brightlingsea, stops at Station Road, west of Sydney Street, then at Victoria Place near the north end of Sydney Street. Street, both less than a 10 minutes walk away. The bus timetable and route maps can be found at www.travelinesoutheast.org.uk.
